So you wanna buy some scissors for your cosplay. It sounds like a simple task, but there are so many kinds to choose from! What kind should you use? Well first you need to figure out what you are using these scissors for. Most have a specific purpose that wont work as effectively on other materials. Here is a list of scissor types and what you need to know about them!
Fabric Scissors- Fabric scissors are not of the more important tools you'll need. They have one flat blade so you can cut your fabric easily on flat surfaces. These scissors can be expensive so make sure you NEVER cut anything other than fabric or thread with them. If you do you'll blunt the blade and sharpening them is very expensive.
Pinking Shears- Pinking shears are important for delicate fabrics that fray easily. The zig-zag blades make it harder for the fabric to fray and that that in turn keeps your project intact for longer and easiest to sew together.
Embroidery Snips- These scissors are small and look like a stork. They are small enough for you to snip your thread close to the garment with precision and not worry about cutting your project. You don't need these when starting out but they are useful when you get the hang of it more.
Scissors are a necessary expense in this craft, but if you take care of them they will take care of you! Happy sewing dreamers!
